Harrison Gibson Hotel, Ilford

Project: Banqueting Hall, Hotel, Restaurant and Retail

Size: 25,320 m²

Location: Redbridge

Client: Private

Construction Cost: estimated £45 m

This 1959-built department store with its Room at the Top night-club was a well-known landmark in the pedestrianised Ilford Town Centre. Planning consent was obtained in 2012 on mixed-use scheme retaining most of the existing structure and including an underground car park, two floors of retail space, 234 units for a hotel and serviced apartments, a rooftop restaurant and a banqueting hall with sweeping views towards the City and East London.

The project presents a fine opportunity for the sustainable re-use of a dilapidated iconic structure, whilst helping regenerate the town centre.

The proposals achieved an Excellent score under BREEAM 2011.
